2023 WBDI Hall of Fame Inductee
Noreen Linnemann taught band in Fairfax County Virginia for over 35 years. Most of her career was at the middle school level. After retiring she became an adjunct instructor for James Madison University supervising student teachers earning a degree in music education.
She received a bachelor’s degree in music education from West Virginia Wesleyan College. She furthered her education studying at the University of Virginia, Peabody Conservatory of Music and George Mason University.
During her teaching career, her bands consistently received superior ratings at contests and festivals. She was recognized by Fairfax County Public Schools for “Teacher Excellence” and “Professional Excellence”. She was twice nominated as Teacher of the Year.
Her band was selected to receive the prestigious “Sudler Cup’’ which is presented to outstanding middle school band programs. She was also recognized by the Sousa Foundation with the “Bandworld Legion of Honor Award” and the “Order of Merit Award”.
Noreen has served as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the United States. She has been a guest conductor in many states for festivals and special award concerts.
Noreen has been a member of the Women Band Directors International since 1970 holding several offices including President from 1988-1990. In addition, she created and served as chair of the Magna Cum Laude Award. WBDI honored Noreen with the Silver Baton Award for her service to the organization. She was also voted into the WBDI Hall of Fame.
