Legacy Committee Guidelines for Honoring Deceased Past Presidents,
Hall of Fame Members, and Charter Members

Legacy Scholarship

1. Provide a scholarship by asking the membership and the Lifetime Members to donate once a year toward the Legacy Scholarship.

2. Other funding for the Legacy Scholarship may be secured from the WBDI Foundation. 

3. The scholarship will be given in the years that a Charter Member, Hall of Fame and/or a Past President have passed.  

4. The Legacy Scholarship will be an amount from $100 - $500 depending on the amount that is collected for the scholarship.

5. Any member can apply for the scholarship and use the funds toward furthering their musical experience, such as a conducting workshop, leadership trainging, music convention, or summer workshop, etc. The scholarship is intended to be used toward tuition, certain registration fees, and research expenses. The scholarship funds cannot be used for food, beverage, housing, and travel expenses.

6. WBDI Foundation/Legacy Committee will hold the funds and review the applications to be awarded. 

7. Scholarship applications will be accepted at any time during the year.

8. If more that one Past President, Hall of Fame, or Charter member passes, then that many scholarships will be awarded.

9. The Legacy Award will be listed on the WBDI website as the WBDI Member’s (Name) Legacy Scholarship

   • WBDI Journal will devote at least a page to the deceased WBDI Past President, Hall of Fame/or Charter member to share that person’s contribution to WBDI and the music community.

   • A media release on the WBDI Website and Facebook written by the current President that will be posted for 30 days. The President may need to reach out to the WBDI membership to get information to share on the release. 

   • If the Legacy Committee determines a deceased member of WBDI who is not in Hall of Fame, Past President or Charter member, the committee may at their discretion award this above honor to a member who has made major contributions to WBDI and music education.
